The project in brief

VID Fire-Kill has supplied the fire protection for the two catamaran ferries Willem Barentsz and Willem De Vlamingh which are owned by Dutch Rederij Doeksen and operate within The Wadden Sea. To reduce the environmental impact in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ferries were designed around the principles of sustainability and green transportation, and to operate solely on liquefied natural gas.

To maintain the green principles as well as lowering the installation and maintenance costs the VID Fire-Kill Low Pressure Watermist systems were chosen as the fire protection for the two vessel’s seating areas, car decks and machine rooms.

Why was a VID Fire-Kill solution chosen?

The VID Fire-Kill Low Pressure Watermist systems offer:

  • Green and sustainable solutions,
  • Potable water as the only extinguishing agent,
  • Low water requirements,
  • Low power requirements,
  • Easy installment and maintenance.
