New Product Approval – K7 for Local Protection
April 05, 2019
The “K7- Kattegat” low pressure watermist system is a local application watermist system for machinery spaces of category A consisting of open low-pressure watermist nozzles. The unique design of the K7 nozzle makes it possible to perform with water pressure down to 2 bar and with a water density rate of only 1.10 mm/min.
The fixed water-based local application system provides localized fire suppression in the fire hazard portions of internal combustion machinery used for ship’s main propulsion and power generation, boiler fronts, and the fire hazard portions of incinerators and purifiers for heated fuel oil as specified in SOLAS regulation II-2/10.5 for category A machinery spaces without engine shut-down, personnel evacuation, shut-down of forced ventilation fans or sealing of the space
The K7 system has been approved by DnVGL MED-B and DnVGL TA in accordance with the latest revision of the IMO MSC. /1 Circ. 1387 REVISED GUIDELINES FOR THE APPROVAL OF FIXED WATER-BASED LOCAL APPLICATION FIRE-FIGHTING SYSTEMS FOR USE IN CATEGORY A MACHINERY SPACES (MSC/CIRC.913)
